Description

Metro Minds STEAM Challenge invites students from Sydney’s city and south west area to come up with an innovative solution to an authentic Sydney Metro challenge or opportunity. By participating in this unit students can apply their subject area skills and knowledge in a real-world situation via the design thinking process

Stage 1 Unit: Sydney Metro Northwest

Description

This Stage 1 complete unit of work meets syllabus outcomes from the built environments (ST1-14BE) strand of the NSW Science K-10 syllabus. It is designed to be taught over one term but individual lessons can also be selected as required.

Stage 3 Unit: Shaping the colony - The impact of rail on Sydney's North West region

Description

This Stage 3 complete unit of work uses Sydney Metro Northwest to explore the coming of rail and other significant events that influenced the growth of Sydney and its North West Region. Teachers can use this unit of work for a full term or select individual lessons.

Stage 5 Unit: Mandatory site study

Description

Students in Stage 4 and Stage 5 History are required to conduct a mandatory site study. This site study for Stage 5 students, provides students with the opportunity to explore features of change and continuity in their local area (HT5-2) and can be taught very effectively to less able students. The unit design encourages a strong emphasis on literary skills.
