Transport for NSW will ensure the recently discovered site of the White Hart inn will be conserved and its historical importance recognised. Teams working on the North West Rail Link discovered the historic site of the inn at Kellyville. Mystery surrounds the building, which was built in the late 1820s and destroyed some time around the turn of the 20th century. Archaeological experts have carefully excavated the site and catalogued incredible finds, including a toothpaste canister with Queen Victoria's image on it, medicine bottles, a doll's leg and coins that are almost 200 years old.

Sydney Metro: Solar system as big as a football field 00:02:02

A solar panel array as big as a football field was completed in November 2017 on Sydney Metro, Australia’s biggest public transport project. It took less than six months to install the 3,287 panels on the roof of the maintenance building at Sydney Metro HQ at Rouse Hill, a suburb in the city’s North West. It is one of the biggest solar power systems mounted on a building in Australia – another milestone that shows the scale of the city-shaping Sydney Metro project. The solar panel system is the biggest on any NSW Government building and covers more than 6,500 square metres – two-thirds of the maintenance building roof at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill. It will generate approximately 1.5million kilowatt hours of electricity per year – that’s enough to power about 270 average homes for a year. The electricity generated by the panels will be used to power some of the Sydney Metro railway stations as well as the maintenance facility, where Sydney’s new metro trains will be serviced. The trains themselves use high voltage power not related to the solar array. However, the trains use regenerative braking – this means extra energy from a slowing train can be recycled back into the power system and used by nearby trains.
