Major construction work continues to get Norwest Station ready for new metro rail services with six escalators now lifted into place by crane.

There will be eight escalators at Norwest Station– four escalators operate between the street level entrances and the concourse level, and four between the concourse level and platform level of the station.

The escalators are 28 metres long, one-and-a-half metres wide and 12 metres high, with each assembled escalator weighing between 17 tonnes and 22 tonnes.

They link the street level with the underground concourse then the platforms, taking customers 21m underground where a new metro train will run every four minutes in the peak.

A total of 42 escalators will be installed across the Sydney Metro Northwest project.

Sydney Metro opens in the first half of next year with 15 trains an hour in the peak in each direction. It will be extended from Chatswood into the city and beyond in 2024 – altogether delivering 31 metro stations and 66km of new metro rail for Sydney.
