Tunnel boring machine (TBM) 2 Florence is on her way to Castle Hill after reaching more Sydney Metro Northwest milestones.

As the sun began to set over Sydney on Friday 19 June 2015, Florence broke through the Showground sandstone and into the station site. Her arrival also signalled the halfway mark in the tunnelling project – with 15 kilometres of the twin tunnels from Bella Vista to Epping now completed and 15 kilometres left to go.

TBM2's journey began when she left Bella Vista late last year. On 4 March she broke through at Norwest. Like all of our TBMs, Florence is working hard and since beginning her rock-busting odyssey she has excavated more than 425,500 tonnes of sandstone and shale, and installed more than 14,832 concrete segments to line the new rail tunnel.

After making her way through the station box at Showground, Florence's journey continues. She's now heading to Castle Hill – playing her part in helping Sydney Metro Northwest deliver Australia's longest railway tunnels.
