A planning application has been submitted to boost the number of residential dwellings delivered as part of the city-shaping Sydney Metro West project at Sydney Olympic Park.

The proposal seeks to convert one of the three approved buildings from commercial to residential use, unlocking the potential for an additional 191 new homes. If approved, this change would bring the total number of residences in the over and adjacent station development to more than 500.

The two remaining buildings will retain their mixed-use purposes, as previously approved, offering commercial and retail spaces across their lower levels with residential dwellings above.

In addition to the three buildings ranging from 27 to 45 storeys, the new metro precinct will include retail, commercial and public open spaces, providing an opportunity to create a vibrant and active place for people to live, work and play.

The well-connected development will reinvigorate Sydney Olympic Park and create a lively new destination where people can live, work and play, while various new dining and retail experiences will significantly enhance Sydney’s night-time economy.

Fast and frequent metro services, including a 15-minute journey to Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD, will make Sydney Olympic Park easier to access than ever before.

To provide increased capacity during events, the new metro station will feature platforms on both sides of the train to support large crowds.

Connections to other transport modes – including existing train and future light rail services – will further integrate the precinct into Sydney’s broader transport network.

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) outlining the proposed changes to the over-station development will be on public exhibition until Thursday 4 September 2025. It can be viewed online here.

During the exhibition period, community members and stakeholders are invited to provide feedback by making a submission to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The submission and current exhibition of the revised plans for the Sydney Olympic Park metro precinct reaffirms the NSW Government’s commitment to delivering more homes in the right locations – enhancing housing affordability, reducing building and infrastructure costs and creating thriving communities.
