A rigorous testing and commissioning program continues deep below the city and with more than 500 hours of testing already completed since the first train entered the new tracks in April, the focus is now on “loaded testing”.

Around 100 huge water bottles filled with 100,000 litres of water have been installed in the train to complete this stage of testing.

The water-filled bottles represent a full load of passengers, which is 1,540 people  – the equivalent of a person in every seat and an additional six people standing in each metre square.

Testing under loaded conditions confirms both the train and tracks can perform as they should.

The water will be recycled at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility North water treatment plant once testing is complete.

Sydney Metro opens to passenger services from Chatswood to Sydenham in 2024.
