New entrance to improve connectivity at Victoria Cross

07.06.2017

North Sydney is set to be even more connected as part of Sydney Metro – Australia’s biggest transport project – with a new fully-accessible station entrance for Victoria Cross Station, following feedback from the community.

The new entrance will be built at 50 McLaren Street in North Sydney.

From the very start, community feedback has helped refine Sydney Metro - this is another example of how the community plays a large part in shaping this congestion-busting project.

Following ongoing community engagement, a services building originally proposed for 194–196A Miller Street in North Sydney will now be moved to the intersection of McLaren Street and Miller Street in North Sydney. It will include a second lift-only station entrance with an underground walkway to the new metro platforms.

This makes it even easier for customers to access Sydney Metro from places like the Mater Hospital, North Sydney Oval and North Sydney Boys High School.

It will also benefit customers using local bus services on Miller Street, delivering a more convenient interchange point.

The Chatswood to Sydenham section of Sydney Metro received planning approval in January 2017.

A planning modification has been lodged with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment to incorporate the changes.

Following community feedback, Transport for NSW also proposes to move a planned substation from Butchers Lane in Artarmon into the Artarmon Industrial Area.

Community information sessions will be held about the changes.

The Victoria Cross Station and Artarmon Substation Modification Report and details on how to make a submission can be found at: www.majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au

The report is on public exhibition from 7 June 2017 to 5 July 2017.
