New community facilities and public space at new Crows Nest metro railway station
29.08.2018
The planning process has started to deliver a modern integrated community precinct at the new Crows Nest metro railway station.
The integrated station development (ISD) proposes new community facilities and public space; it is proposed there will be four buildings – two residential buildings, commercial office space and a building that could be either a hotel or commercial office space.
This is an opportunity to create a modern precinct that services the community’s needs, supported by a world class metro.
All four buildings will integrate with the local urban area while recognising the changing face of this vibrant community. The proposal will boost employment, provide a mix of housing opportunities, support the night-time economy and provide easy access to a major health precinct.
The new metro station at Crows Nest will provide a catalyst for increased public transport use, providing the community with another option for getting around Sydney.
Sydney Metro has now lodged a request with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment for the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). This is in preparation for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will accompany the concept State Significant Development (SSD) application, expected to be lodged in late 2018.
Early engagement has been an essential part of collecting community feedback on the Crows Nest integrated station development.
Sydney Metro will create access to more job opportunities, and provide faster, more frequent and direct access to key employment centres.
Additional community information sessions will be held when the concept State Significant Development application, including the EIS, is lodged with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in late 2018, when there will be an opportunity to make a formal submission.
Community members can continue to contact the project team with feedback about the concept proposal.
Sydney Metro services start in the second quarter of 2019 in the city’s north west, with metro rail to be extended in 2024 under Sydney Harbour, through the CBD and beyond to Bankstown.
