Major boost to M1 Metro services starts today

Passengers travelling on the M1 Line are set to benefit from a major increase in services from today, making it easier to choose public transport as fuel supply pressures continue.

An extra 166 metro services each week are being added across the M1 Line, increasing capacity during the busiest travel times and on weekends.

To help manage the morning and afternoon rush, an additional 12 weekday services will also operate, with peak services running every three minutes and 45 seconds until Friday 17 April.

Following the school holiday period, services will increase again from Monday 20 April, with peak trains running every three minutes and 30 seconds.

Weekend services are also seeing a significant uplift. Trains on the M1 Line will now run every seven minutes instead of every 10, delivering an extra 58 services on Saturdays and 48 on Sundays. This represents an increase of around 40 per cent in weekend capacity across the metro network.

To support the service uplift, three additional trains ordered as part of the Sydney Metro Southwest extension will be temporarily brought into service. Once the next phase of testing for the Southwest extension begins and these trains are required for testing activities, weekday peak services will return to every four minutes. The more frequent seven‑minute weekend services will continue during this time.

Planned full and partial line closures ahead of the opening of the Sydney Metro Southwest extension will proceed as scheduled. These closures are essential to connect the Bankstown extension with the existing M1 Line, and keeping this work on track is critical to opening the Southwest line in the second half of the year.
