Hello Tallawong - Community tours Australia's first metro station
28.09.2018
More than 500 people attended a community day at the new Tallawong Station – Australia’s first completed metro railway station.
Nearby residents and future customers inspected the first of the 13 Sydney Metro Northwest stations which will open in the second quarter of next year.
They got the first look at cutting-edge customer technology like platform screen doors – glass barriers which keep people and objects like prams away from the tracks and allow trains to get in and out of stations much faster, another Australian first.
The station’s canopy design was inspired by the local blue gum leaf found in Sydney’s north west.
Features of the station include 1,000 commuter car parking spaces, Australia’s first video help points and a train every four minutes in each direction in the peak.
Sydney Metro is Australia’s first full accessible railway – there are lifts at all stations and level access between platforms and trains.
The community day, held on Sunday 23 September, was delivered by Sydney Metro in conjunction with Sydney Metro Northwest builder Northwest Rapid Transit and the operator of the new railway, Metro Trains Sydney.
