Check before you travel: M1 line closures to enable Southwest Metro opening

Metro passengers are advised to plan ahead over the coming months, particularly when travelling on weekends, as a number of scheduled M1 Metro line closures take place to prepare for the opening of the Southwest Metro later this year.
The closures are a critical step in completing essential testing, software upgrades and integration work to ensure the new Sydenham to Bankstown section operates seamlessly and safely with the existing M1 Line.
Upcoming changes in Metro services
- Full line closures - Replacement buses will run between Tallawong and Chatswood, with Sydney Trains services between Chatswood and Sydenham:
- Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 February
- Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 March
- Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 March
- Friday 3 to Monday 6 April (Easter weekend)
- Partial line closures:
- Saturday 28 March to Sunday 29 March. No metro services will run between Macquarie Park and Victoria Cross while Sydney Trains completes trackwork at Chatswood. Passengers are advised to use replacement buses as Sydney Trains services will also not run at Chatswood Station during this time.
- Night works from 9.50pm – services run to a reduced frequency between Tallawong and Sydenham, every 20 minutes. At Victoria Cross and Crows Nest, services towards Tallawong may leave from different platforms.
- Sunday 1 to Wednesday 4 March
- Monday 09 to Wednesday 11 March
- Night works from 9.50pm – No metro services will run between Central and Sydenham. Customers are advised to use Sydney Trains services between Central and Sydenham.
- Monday 30 March to Wednesday 01 April
Further closures will be necessary as the testing program continues. Passengers will be kept informed of these timetable changes through transport apps, travel alerts and station announcements, and are encouraged to visit transportnsw.info to plan their journeys.
When services start to Bankstown in the second half of this year, Metro will stretch 66 kilometres from the Sydney’s northwest, below the Sydney CBD and out to Bankstown. The line will serve 31 stations, connecting some of Sydney’s busiest suburbs through the heart of the Sydney CBD.
