Sydney Metro upgrades at Sydenham Station are nearing completion, ahead of the first metro services arriving at the station in 2024.

The final landscaping and artwork have been installed at the new station entrance at Railway Parade, along with new Opal gates which have been tested and are ready to allow customers direct access to the metro platforms once services commence.

The station entrance at Burrows Road opened to the public in mid-2022, along with a new pedestrian concourse that will provide an easy interchange between metro and heavy rail services.

Four new lifts were also installed and will be operational next year to take customers from the concourse to Sydney Trains platforms and Sydney Metro Platform 1.

All 340 metres of platform screen doors are installed on the new metro platforms 1 and 2, which had to be extended by 180 metres to accommodate the metro trains.

Initial testing of the doors has been completed, with integration testing underway as part of the comprehensive train testing program.

Customer information signage, seating, canopies for weather protection and digital information screens have also been installed on the platforms.

Outside the station, Sydney Metro has delivered additional bike parking, public art, new pedestrian crossings, fully accessible bus stops, and taxi and kiss and ride bays.

When metro services start at Sydenham Station in 2024, passengers will be able to take fast, safe and reliable journeys to Central in 7 minutes, Barangaroo in 13 minutes and North Sydney in 16 minutes. The station will also allow easy interchange with Sydney Trains T2 Inner West, T3 Bankstown, T4 Illawarra and T8 Airport & South Line services.

It is expected that by 2026, more than 11,900 commuters will travel through Sydenham Station each day.
