Martin Place Community Piano makes big debut
23.06.2026
A new activation is striking a chord at Martin Place Metro Station, with the installation of a donated piano in the unpaid southern concourse.
Following the lead of major stations in global cities like London, Paris and Tokyo, the piano is open to all and invites passersby to pause and take part, whether by playing or simply listening, bringing moments of creativity and joy to their daily commute.
Gifted by a regular metro passenger and classically trained musician who wishes to remain anonymous, the piano carries a heartfelt dedication to their parents:
“In honour of my parents, Ruth & Josef, to whom music was life."
Music in public spaces plays an important role in transforming everyday environments into welcoming, human-centred places, enriching the passenger experience and fostering community connection.
Pop-up performances by professional musicians will also take place, with details to be shared on our social channels.
