Central Walk: Delivering better transport connections at Sydney’s busiest station

Central Walk artists impression.

The planning process has started to deliver Central Walk - a new underground concourse at Central Station that will better connect passengers to trains, buses, light rail and the new Sydney Metro.

Central Walk is the first step in the revitalisation of Central Station. Main features include:

  • A 19-metre wide tunnel from Chalmers Street linking to new Sydney Metro platforms under Central
  • New, easy access points to Sydney Trains platforms 16 to 23
  • Escalators directly to suburban platforms for the first time
  • Boosting capacity at Central to cater for the expected 66 per cent increase in daily customer demand

The Chatswood to Sydenham section of Sydney Metro received planning approval in January 2017.

A planning modification has been lodged with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment to incorporate the changes.

The Central Walk Modification Report and details on how to make a submission can be found at: www.majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au

The report is on public exhibition from Wednesday 21 June 2017 to Wednesday 2 August 2017.

The Project team has also organised community information sessions where displays and information will be available for people to provide feedback.

Community information sessions:

Wednesday 28 June, 4pm-7pm
Rendezvous Hotel, cnr of George and Quay Streets, Sydney

Saturday 1 July, 10am-1pm
Rendezvous Hotel, cnr of George and Quay Streets, Sydney

Central Walk will be delivered at the same time as the new Sydney Metro platforms, with construction expected to start in 2018.
