Tunnel builders shortlisted for Harbour crossing

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today announced two groups have been shortlisted to build the tunnels under Sydney Harbour and through the Central Business District (CBD) for Sydney Metro – Australia’s biggest public transport project.
Earlier this year we completed the 15 kilometre twin tunnels in the North West and now we’re cracking on with the next stage of Sydney’s tunnelling boom.
The first of the giant boring machines will be in the ground before the end of 2018 for tunnelling under the harbour and through the CBD, and we’ve received interest from here and abroad from companies wanting to carry out the work.”
More than 18 tunnelling and civil engineering organisations were engaged as part of industry consultation earlier this year in the Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation Works contract.
Following an assessment of the expressions of interest submissions, two strong joint venture parties have been shortlisted and will be invited to tender for the contract.
They are:
- The John Holland CPB Ghella Joint Venture, made up of John Holland Pty Ltd, CPB Contractors Pty Ltd and Ghella Pty Ltd
- The Ferrovial, Acciona Ltd and BAM Joint Venture, made up of Ferrovial Agroman (Australia) Pty Ltd, Acciona Infrastructure Australia Pty Ltd and BAM International Australia Pty Ltd
The NSW Government expects to award the contract to build the tunnels around the middle of next year.
