Clyde Stabling and Maintenance Facility

Supporting services and Infrastructure

A stabling and maintenance facility will be located in the Clyde and Rosehill industrial estate bounded by James Ruse Drive, Western Motorway (the M4), Unwin Street and Shirley Street.

Inside the facility, a traction substation will provide power to the metro line and a water treatment plant will treat and recycle all wastewater from the tunnels, stations and underground facilities. The facility will also house offices, parking and storage.

Planning and compliance

Station excavation and tunnelling

The Department of Planning and Environment granted approval for the Sydney Metro West Project Concept between Westmead and the Sydney CBD and station excavation and tunnelling between Westmead and The Bays in March 2021.

Modification Report to the planning approval for the Project Concept between Westmead and the Sydney CBD and station excavation and tunnelling between Westmead and The Bays was on public exhibition in November and December 2021. The modification proposed to relocate the tunnel dive structure to the north-east and realign Kay and Unwin streets through the site, providing safe and reliable pedestrian and cyclist access. The footbridge and platforms within the decommissioned Rosehill Station would also be removed to facilitate the work. The modification was approved in June 2022.

Gamuda Australia and Laing O’Rourke Consortium (GLC) was awarded the contract for station excavation and tunnelling between Sydney Olympic Park and Westmead.

Rail infrastructure, stations, precincts and operations

The Department of Planning and Environment granted approval for rail infrastructure, stations, precincts and operations between Westmead and the Sydney CBD in January 2023.
